Wayne Prater

Wayne Prater, 81, of Woodbury passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at Alive Hospice of Murfreesboro.  Born in Cannon Co., he was the son of the late John T. Prater and Valma Daniel Prater.  He was also preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Janet Prater, wife, Katie Prater, his son-in-law, Mike Pemberton, his grandson, Justin Pemberton and his sister, Nelda (Bobby) Pitts. 

Mr. Prater is survived by his children, Danna Pemberton (Roger Parker) of Woodbury, Steven Todd (Vickie) Prater of Rock Island, Tracy (Clay) Bell of Woodbury.  He was Pa to 6 grandchildren, Emily (Derrick) Elgin, Matthew (Shelby) Pemberton, Shawnacey (Morgan) Wilcher, Catherine (Mark) Howell, Dalton (Karisa) Bell and McClain (Logan) Kell; brothers, James (Marie) Prater and Ricky (Barbara) Prater both of Woodbury and sister-in-law, Dalphia Parsley of Fayetteville.  Also surviving are 9 great grandchildren.

A member of the Leoni Church of Christ, Wayne was a Carpenter and Preacher.  He was also elected Cannon Co. Trustee from 2010 - 2014. He was a member of the Woodbury Lions Club and was an avid hunter.  He especially loved coon hunting.  He was instrumental in the building of The Justin Pemberton Memorial Arena in memory of his beloved grandson.

Memorial visitation will be Saturday, May 2, 2026 beginning at 10:00 A.M.  Memorial services will follow at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Bro. Herb Alsup officiating.
