Robert J. Knapp, Sr.

Robert J. Knapp, Sr., lovingly known as "Pops" passed away Thursday, February 27, 2020 at St. Thomas Rutherford.  He was 91.  He was a native of Hackensack, N.J. and lived in Murfreesboro. 

He is survived by his children, Robert Joseph, Jr. (Yvonne) Knapp, Lynn Essary, Wendy Adams, Lillian (Billy) Schoonamaker, Barbara Grzywaczewski, Douglas (Sue) Knapp, Richard (Barbara) Knapp and Carol Lebarron.  23 Grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren also survive. 
 
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Knapp, Sr. and Elizabeth Knapp; his beloved wife, Hazel I. Knapp; daughter, Robin Smith and Son, Warren Carr.  Several siblings also preceded him in death.
 
Throughout his life, Pops worked in many venues including truck driving and mechanics for Palmer Milk, McBrides Trucking and Yellow Freight.  He also drove a school bus for Goshen Central School System in New York retiring in 1994.  He worked as well in landscaping and gardening industry for Adamis Farms, NY and ChemTurf, Tn.  Pops was loved by the staff and students when he worked at Central Middle School, Murfreesboro City Schools and Rockvale Elementary Schools in Rutherford Co. where he retired on May 06, 2009.
 
Pops was also a proud volunteer fireman with New Hampton NY Fire Co.  He loved deer hunting, fishing, dancing, crafting, wooden models, painting gardening and most of all enjoying time spent with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
 
Memorial Services will be 1 pm Saturday, March 07, 2020  in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home.  Interment will follow in Odom Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be from 12 noon until 1 pm Saturday, March 7, 2020.
