Mr. James Edward "Weeder" Ferguson, passed away on October 22, 2022. He was surrounded by close friends at his home in Woodbury. He was born on June 28, 1945 in Pontiac, Michigan to William Ferguson and Jane Hood.
James is survived by his daughter, Irene Ferguson and her husband Clint Alexander, his granddaughter Eliana Elko, as well as his brothers, Bill and Bruce Ferguson, and his sister, Ann Melvin. James is also survived by another daughter, Jane Carter, and was a foster parent to several other children.
James was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Ferguson, his daughter, Yvonne Ferguson, and his parents, William Ferguson and Jane Hood.
James served in the Navy during the Vietnam War from 1968-1971 as an Aviation Electrician’s Mate. James lived on the commune "The Farm" in Summertown, TN during the 1970's and was a part of the Short Mountain Sanctuary community in Liberty, TN since the 1990's. He was a revered elder in both communities.
James was a carpenter by trade, was an avid gardener and bird watcher, and crafted gourd birdhouses. He was a true nature enthusiast and was a great source of knowledge and creativity.
We celebrate James's rich life and cherish the precious memories he left us as well as his legacy. His spirit, wisdom, sense of adventure, kindness and unwavering courage will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
