Cassandra Elaine (Travis) Rambo

Cassandra Travis Rambo, age 78, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, following a lengthy illness.

Born on October 9, 1947, in Atlanta, Georgia, Cassandra was the daughter of the late Ralph Nolan Travis, Sr. and Shirley Daniel Huddleston. She spent her childhood in Fayetteville, Georgia before moving with her family to Jonesboro in 1963, where she graduated from Jonesboro High School.

While attending the University of Georgia as an art major, she met her future husband, the late John James “Jim” Rambo, Jr., with whom she shared two daughters.

Cassandra retired from the Jonesboro Public Library, where she was beloved by coworkers, patrons, and countless children whose lives she touched through story hour and the children’s department. A gifted artist, she created much of the artwork displayed throughout the library. Her creativity extended far beyond her work, and her family treasures the many oil paintings she lovingly created over the years.

She was known for her intelligence, articulate nature, and remarkable memory. Family members often joked that she could spell nearly any word asked of her, one of the many benefits of having a librarian for a mother. Cassandra possessed a quick wit and wonderful sense of humor that brought laughter to those around her. She was gracious and generous by nature, often giving away jewelry or cherished possessions simply because someone admired them.

An avid reader, Cassandra especially loved mystery novels and was a gifted storyteller in her own right. She also adored cats and rarely spent life without one nearby. Her Methodist faith remained a source of comfort and strength throughout her life. 

She is survived by her daughters, Stephanie Hope (Ben) Metzler and Mary Elizabeth “Beth” (Paul) Silas; her grandsons, Zachary Metzler and Ryan Metzler; her siblings, Marty (Bill) Pickard of Hernando, Mississippi, Nolan (Treva) Travis of Woodbury, Tennessee, Gail (Mike) Herrmann of Brentwood, Tennessee, and Barrett (Sandy) Travis of Memphis, Tennessee; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and dear friends, especially Stephanie and Mitch.

In accordance with her wishes, Cassandra will be cremated. In place of a formal service, loved ones gathered during her hospitalization to share stories, laughter, photographs, and treasured memories together while Cassandra was able to participate and enjoy their company. Family members also read from her grandmother’s memoir, Life Without an End, honoring the rich family history and storytelling tradition she held dear. 

Her family will remember her always for her kindness, creativity, humor, and the comfort of a life filled with books, art, stories, and love.
