Violet Angela Smith, age 95, passed away on April 3, 2017 at Community Care of Rutherford County.  A Cannon County native, she had been living in Bedford County for the last 7 years.  Ms. Smith was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Orville Smith, and a precious granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Skillington.  She was also preceded in death by sister, Nora Mears; and brothers, Walter Stacy, Robert Stacy, and Thomas Stacy.  She is survived by daughters, Barbara (Ray) Holyfield of Palm Coast, FL, and Sheree (Woody) Floyd of Bell Buckle, TN; a sister, Bonnie Stacy of the Midway Community in Cannon County; six grandchildren who she adored, Leigh Skillington, Jan (Steve) Carmichael, Angela Corley, Scott (Jennifer) Hennessee, Brett (Jennifer) Floyd, and Jessica (Doug) Birkofer; and 5 beloved great grandchildren.  Ms. Smith's daughter, Sheree, assisted by Paula Poole and Kim Simmons, lovingly cared for her in her later years.  Ms. Smith was a hard-working homemaker, a long-time member of Ivy Bluff United Methodist Church in Cannon County and was for many years an active member of the Home Demonstration Club.  Her gift was cooking.  She grew vegetable gardens and canned and cooked homegrown food for family and friends for 70 years.  She also cared for her husband for many years before his death and helped with her mother-in-law, parents, and sister.

Funeral services will be 3 PM Friday, April 7, 2017 in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Bro. Danny Freeman & Bro. Neal Glass officiating.  Interment will follow at Ivy Bluff Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be from 12 PM until time of service at 3 PM on Friday, April 7, 2017.  

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ivy Bluff United Methodist Church.
